Understanding card rankings is the most fundamental skill in Teen Patti Master. Every strategic decision you make — whether to bet, raise, or fold — depends on your assessment of your hand's relative strength. This guide covers every hand type in detail, with examples, probabilities, and tie-breaking rules.
Teen Patti uses a 52-card deck with six possible hand types, ranked from highest to lowest:
- Trail (Three of a Kind) — 0.24% probability
- Pure Sequence (Straight Flush) — 0.22% probability
- Sequence (Straight) — 3.26% probability
- Color (Flush) — 4.96% probability
- Pair (Two of a Kind) — 16.94% probability
- High Card — 74.39% probability
Trail (Three of a Kind)
Three cards of the same rank. The highest Trail is A-A-A, followed by K-K-K, Q-Q-Q, down to 2-2-2.
Example: K♠ K♥ K♦
Probability: 0.24% (approximately 1 in 422 hands)
Strategy: This is the ultimate hand — virtually unbeatable. Play it for maximum value. Consider slow-playing occasionally to trap opponents, but do not be afraid to bet aggressively since it is so rare that opponents rarely put you on a Trail.
Pure Sequence (Straight Flush)
Three consecutive cards of the same suit. A-K-Q of the same suit is the highest, 4-3-2 is the lowest. Note: A-2-3 is valid but Q-K-A is the highest (A cannot wrap around to make K-A-2).
Example: 8♥ 9♥ 10♥
Probability: 0.22% (approximately 1 in 460 hands)
Strategy: Nearly as strong as a Trail. Bet aggressively for value. The only hand that beats it is a Trail, which is extremely rare. Most players will happily pay you off with lower hands.
Sequence (Straight)
Three consecutive cards not of the same suit. Same ranking order as Pure Sequence: A-K-Q highest, 4-3-2 lowest.
Example: 7♠ 8♥ 9♦
Probability: 3.26% (approximately 1 in 31 hands)
Strategy: A strong hand that wins most showdowns. Be cautious if the board texture suggests possible Pure Sequences for opponents. Bet for value but be prepared to fold to heavy action.
Color (Flush)
Three cards of the same suit, not in sequence. Compared by highest card, then second, then third.
Example: A♠ 7♠ 3♠
Probability: 4.96% (approximately 1 in 20 hands)
Strategy: A decent hand but vulnerable to Sequences and above. The strength depends heavily on your highest card. An A-high Color is much stronger than a 7-high Color. Play aggressively with high Colors, cautiously with low ones.
Pair (Two of a Kind)
Two cards of the same rank plus one unrelated card. Compared by pair value first, then the kicker card.
Example: J♠ J♥ 5♦
Probability: 16.94% (approximately 1 in 6 hands)
Strategy: The most commonly made "strong" hand. High Pairs (Aces, Kings, Queens) are very strong. Low Pairs are vulnerable and should be played cautiously. Your kicker card matters for tie-breaking but rarely determines whether you should play the hand.
High Card
No combination formed — three unrelated cards of mixed suits. Compared by highest card, then second, then third.
Example: A♣ 9♦ 4♠
Probability: 74.39% (approximately 3 in 4 hands)
Strategy: The most common hand, and the one you should fold most often. Only very high High Cards (A-K-x or A-Q-x) have any showdown value. Most High Card hands should be folded early to save chips. Bluffing with High Cards is possible but should be done selectively and in good position.
In Teen Patti, a Sequence beats a Color. This is the opposite of Poker rankings and is a common source of confusion for players new to Teen Patti who have Poker experience.
Tie-Breaking Rules
- Suits have NO ranking: Spades is not higher than Hearts. Suits are only relevant for Pure Sequences and Colors (must be the same suit).
- Compare highest card first: For identical hand types, compare the highest card. If equal, compare the second, then the third.
- For Pairs: Compare the pair value first. If equal, compare the kicker card.
- For Trails: Higher rank wins. A-A-A beats K-K-K. Simple.
- Complete ties: Extremely rare but possible (e.g., both have 7-8-9 of different suits as a Sequence). In a show, the requester loses.
